SPRING 2024

Hello, CUPS community.

After careful consideration following feedback from the Clark community, the CUPS Executive Board has made the difficult decision to end our Spring production of Blood Wedding. This was not an easy choice to make, but after conferring with Theater faculty and staff from the Office of Diversity and Inclusion we came to the conclusion that CUPS is not currently equipped to put on this show. We plan on taking steps over this semester to reassess the club and work to make it a more equitable and educational space for anyone and everyone who wants to participate in theater at Clark. Some of our plans for the future include:

  1. Re-examining and revising our mission statement/charter to ensure that we are committed to serving the Clark community and providing space for everyone in theater.

  2. Revamping and standardizing our CUPS audition process to minimize the influence of personal and racial bias

  3. Restructuring our timeline to ensure ample time for pre-production.

  4. Creating more educational (and fun!) opportunities for thespians at Clark this semester and beyond

If you have feedback regarding this choice, we encourage you to reach out to us at this email. The E-Board and our faculty advisor, Jessie Darrell-Jarbadan, will read and respond to any correspondence as a group. We recognize that this may be difficult news to hear and process, and we hope that you understand that this choice was made because we want to work to make CUPS a safe and welcoming environment for all.

This is not the end of CUPS for the spring semester. Please keep an eye out for news about what we’re going to do moving forward. In the meantime, take care of yourselves.

Best,

Team CUPS
